Calvin C. Chien, received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the State University of New York in Porous Media Follow and Environmental Modelling, and is the Member of the U.S. EPA Science Advisory Board. He first worked with Dame & Moore and later was invited to join Westinghouse where he received his first U.S. Patent before joining DuPont Engineering in 1981. In 1987, he assumed the responsibilities to provide environmental technical support and supervision, covering all DuPont sites in Asia-Pacific Region. He was a technology leader when DuPont Corporate Remediation Group (CRG) was established in 1991, a technical group with global responsibility focusing on the investigation and remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater and began his promotion for Industry-Academic-Research Collaboration through the rest of his career. He has developed several popular books in soil and groundwater remediation through collaboration. Dr. Chien, in 2004, was promoted to be one of the 12 DuPont Fellows, the highest position for technical professionals at DuPont. He was the first and only Fellow selected from the environmental specialty in DuPont history so far. In 2009, he became the 81st recipient of the company’s highest honour. Dr. Chien was asked to continue to help DuPont with a special title Sr. S&T Advisor after his retirement in 2014.
