Masaaki Hosomi was awarded a doctoral dissertation from Osaka University in 1989, “Nutrients Release from Lake Bottom Sediments and its Control”. In 1992, he was transferred from the National Institute for Environmental Studies to the Associate Professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, and since 1997 he has been promoted to professor, and now it reaches the present. Research field covers ecological engineering, hazardous waste and contaminated soil processing technology, biomass use. He has published over 200 papers in international journals. He has been involved in legislation of “Law Concerning Special Measures against Dioxins”, “Law Concerning Special Measures against PCBs”, and “Soil Pollution Control Law” as advisor or committee member. As the Chairman of the National Effluent Regulation Committee, he has led various regulatory standards and measures. He had participated in the First-Fifth-Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) as a Japanese delegate member. He had served as associate editor in Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy published by Springer (2010-2017).
