Berit Lein, Master in Law of University of Oslo, Policy Director, Nature Management Department, Norwegian Environment Agency (NEA), Assistant Director General at NEA since 1989, with overall responsibility for the establishment and management of protected areas in Norway (including Svalbard), a network currently comprising around 3000 protected areas and 17 % of Norway’s mainland land area, international cooperation related to biodiversity, including key conventions and agreements such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Ramsar Convention, Bern Convention and the World Heritage Convention, Regional cooperation (European, Arctic and Nordic), bilateral cooperation (environmental agreements with Russia, China, Myanmar and India) and collaboration with international organizations (IUCN and Europarc). She was also the Deputy Head of Norwegian Delegation, World Heritage Committee, National representative of Arctic Council program on Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF), conducted bilateral environmental cooperation with China, India and Myanmar. Her specific work areas include spatial planning, wildlife management, outdoor recreation and environmental economics.
