Sverre Vedal, epidemiologist and pulmonary physician with primary research interests in the health effects of air pollution, and Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, U.S.. He was educated at the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Colorado and Harvard University. Dr. Vedal currently holds the AXA Research Fund Chair on Air Pollution and Health in China in which he collaborates with investigators at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences in Beijing in carrying out air pollution exposure and health studies. He has published extensively on the health effects of air pollution and air pollution exposure estimation. Dr. Vedal teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on epidemiology and community air pollution in the School of Public Health, University of Washington, supervises Ph.D. and other students working on completing their research thesis, sees patients in the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Clinic at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and supervises clinical trainees. He currently serves on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee which advises the EPA on setting air quality standards.
